The mythical Filoktet, lonely and suffering, is dragging his sick foot on the Lemnos beach. Not thinking about it much, he's carrying out his sentence. As a human, he is subject to the will of faith and gods. Rebellion doesn't even cross his mind.
Hundreds of years later the world looks completely different. More and more bravely, we dream about shaping our own reality – full control over what we used to call faith. We are not terrified by the unknown and on the horizon of the road leading to becoming modern heroes is immortality. Is the dream of endless possibilities just a delusion? Despite the dynamic development of humankind, the life of singular people is still often marked by suffering and powerlessness.
To work on the show, directed by Agata Koszulińska, the creators invited an artist with an incurable disease that available medicine doesn’t offer an effective cure for. Her personal experience becomes a reflection of Filoktet’s situation.
The performance was created in cooperation with the New Epiphanies Festival, as part of the New Epiphanies Laboratory.
