PAWEŁ SZTARBOWSKI

Paweł Sztarbowski – PhD. of Theatre Arts. He graduated from Philosophy studies at the University of Warsaw, studied  Theatre Arts at the Theater Academy in Warsaw and defended his PhD dissertation entitled “Theater and Solidarity. On theater of the community” at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, written under the direction of prof. Krystyna Duniec. Between 2006 and 2011 he worked at the Zbigniew Raszewski Theater Institute as Head of Theater Promotion, while between 2011 and 2014 he worked at the Polski Theater in Bydgoszcz as the Deputy Director and Artistic Director at the Premiere Festival. He has been working as Deputy Director of Powszechny Theater in Warsaw since 2014. He teaches at the Theater Academy in Warsaw.


He was the founder of Nowa Siła Krytyczna - a group of young reviewers writing for the Polish Theater Vortal e.teatr.pl. As reviewer and publicist, he has co-operated with “Tygodnik Powszechny”, “Notatnik Teatralny”, “Teatr”, “Didaskalia”, “Opcje”, “Metro”, “Newsweek Polska” as well as an abundance of foreign magazines focused on the topic of theater - „Theater der Zeit”, „Svet e Divadlo” and „Theater Seasons”. He continued as a columnist for e-teatr.pl. He is the author of numerous scientific texts on theater declaimed on both all-Polish and international conferences and published in collective works. He is the editor of books “Liberated Energy” (Warsaw 2011) and “Teatr wspólny” (Bydgoszcz 2013).


He runs drama classes within Laboratorium: Designing Culture at SWPS University in Warsaw.

As a dramaturg, he has collaborated with Michał Zadara at “Kupiec” by Mikołaj Rej in National Stary Theater in Kraków and with Paweł Łysak at “V (F) ICD-10. Transformacje and The Threepenny Opera” at the Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz, “Opowiem wam bajkę” at the Warsaw Uprising Museum. Furthermore, he worked with Wojciech Faruga at plays “Walentyna” at the History Meeting House in Warsaw (2012) and “W środku słońca gromadzi się popiół” at the Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theater in Kraków (2014) as well as “Trędowata. Melodramat” (2014), with Marcin Liber at The “Wedding” by Stanisław Wyspiański (2013). He also worked on the script the Polish-Swiss play “Against” directed by Nils Torpus (2013). As for the Polish Radio Theater, he adapted radio plays directed by Paweł Łysak. The winner of Grand Prix of the Festival of Theater of Polish Radio and Television “Two Theaters - Sopot”.
