SYNOPSIS

Three young, rural girls come to Warsaw for one day. They believe that this city offers great opportunities and promising careers; a place where anything can happen, a place where they will be able to escape from the humdrum of their small town and meet interesting people and, who knows, maybe even find true love. Will the expectations meet the reality?

Inspired by the film by Janusz Kondratiuk, the play discusses the division between the country and the city, and shows modern human relations in a funny but also touching way.

REVIEWS
  • [Piotr Ratajczak] focused on the script by Piotr Rowicki who set this story in modern times. (...) The script is brilliant. It successfully conveys the world of ostensible values and uses comedy elements to refer to modern verbosity (...). The story is based on an ingenious scenography by Matylda Kotlińska. In contrast to the movie, a monotonous meeting is not revived by a waiter who is “a man of the world”; it is the well-known weather forecaster (Piotr Ligienza in his daring role) who livens up the protagonists.   (Jan Bończa-Szabłowski, Rzeczpospolita, 20.05.2014)
  • The idea to set Kondratiuk’s movie “Available Girls” (1972) on stage and place it in modern times turned out to be successful. Piotr Rowicki, with his infallible linguistic sense, presents the philosophical perception of three young girls from the country near Warsaw and three boys who pretend to be “in control of the situation”, even though they cannot control their own lives. A mélange of inapt language spoken by hipster and Internet environment does not only trigger a comic effect, but it also reveals the spiritual emptiness of the travellers, those involved in a rat race, and the girls who are longing for a change in their lives.   (Tomasz Miłkowski, Przegląd, 26.05.2014)
  • The audience will be able to admire the outstanding actors of the Powszechny Theatre, including Eliza Borowska and Katarzyna Maria Zielińska (“Available Girls”, along with Agnieszka Piepiórska mentioned at the beginning) and Michał Napiątek, Grzegorz Falkowski, and Piotr Ligienza – an extraordinary weather forecaster and showman. Once you get some funny elements of stage design (furniture pulled out from the walls) and a fair amount of popular music, you have a perfect entertainment model as in “What are you laughing at?” Jan Stawarz, starring as the Engineer in Kondratiuk’s movie, recently told that the power of the “Girls” lies with the fact that “the film presents modern realities, and their display was so apt that it was painful”. The same effect was achieved by Ratajczak. It causes a lot of pain.   (Kamila Łapicka, W Sieci, 30.05.2014)
